Single named newcomer, singer/songwriter Jeremih and veteran alternative rock band Wilco top the list of nominees for the CMA with five nominations each.  Jeremih was nominated for Best New Entertainer, Pop Entertainer of the Year, R&B Entertainer of the Year, Record Producer of the Year and Best Songwriter.  Wilco crossed genres to be nominated for Best Country & Western Entertainer, Best Rock Entertainer and Pop Entertainer of the Year, Most Outstanding Band or Group, and Best Rock Album. 

Kanye West, Twista and R. Kelley, three CMA vets, tied for second place with three nominations each – West for Pop Entertainer, Record Producer and Best Hip Hop/Rap Entertainer, Twista for Hip Hop Entertainer, Best Hip Hop Album/CD and Songwriter of the Year and Kelley for Best R&B Entertainer, Best Male Vocalist and Record Producer of the Year.  Jennifer Hudson was nominated in two categories.

Receiving LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS are R&B music legend Etta James, legendary Country singer and producer Calvin Martin Stallard, radio icon & record producer Lucky Cordell, veteran Polka star Bruce Korosa and veteran producer & promoter Henry Cardenas. Award of Honor recipients are bagpiper Virgil Wilk and radio personality and news anchor R. Veronica Williams.  The Producer’s Award will be presented to pioneering Blues entertainer Shorty Mack.

Music fans have until Thursday, December 31, 2009 to mail-in ballots or go on-line to www.chicagomusicawards.org and vote for their favorite entertainers.  Ballots will be available in select newspapers and magazines, at sponsor locations, clubs, record stores, beauty salons and other locations throughout the Chicagoland area.

 

Each year, the highly anticipated CMA pays tribute to Chicago’s rich and diverse musical heritage. Nearly 200 artists in 43 categories ranging from Pop, Reggae, Blues, Jazz, Rock, Country & Western and Gospel to R&B, Soul, Hip Hop, Latin, World Beat and more compete annually at this festive event, the only one of its kind to honor entertainers across musical genres in the Chicagoland area.
